Josephine Community Libraries, Inc.

After the failure of a measure to form a library district in November 2006, the libraries in Josephine County closed on May 17, 2007. Four months later, committed community members formed Josephine Community Libraries, Inc. (JCLI), a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring long-term library services for every county resident. By December 2009, JCLI had reopened all four shuttered locations.

In November 2014, citizens placed a measure on the ballot to permanently fund the libraries, but the measure was defeated by 53 percent of the vote.

Today, the libraries continue to operate thanks to generous donations and the heroic contributions of more than 360 volunteers annually. Click to go to the Josephine Community Libraries website.

Now volunteers are working to form a new, smaller, noncontiguous library special district to meet the ever-increasing demand for library services in Josephine County. Read more.
